Sunshine island inn florida10/20/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The Gulf of Mexico is about a 3 minute walk away. Folks tend to chat with each other and you make friends real fast. You can't ask for better service than that in my opinion. The staff told me to call them a day or two ahead of time the next time I visit and they will make sure to use a mild detergent on my linens. I asked them if there was something else and before I knew it, my room sheets were stripped off the bed, the towels taken out and a few hours later I had new linens. The detergent they use was not agreeing with my skin. The first night I was there, I found out I was allergic to the sheets and towels. The staff does a wonderful job keeping this property clean. The rooms are older as are the furnishings, however, the place is spotless. We like to go on vacation with our dogs once or twice a year and the Sunshine Island Inn allows you to have pets. This was the second time we've stayed at this property and once again we were so pleased with our choice. Also make check out 11-12 for guest convenience. My advice is to the owners- put a little money into gutting the bathrooms and getting new, updating the bedding, updating the ugly painted plywood closet and dated stove/ fridge, dump some stone on your "beach path" and cut back hedge that overgrows it, and you will have a really darling, "retro" in a good way hotel. Also informed solar heats the pool, which I was very happy to hear from an environmental standpoint. Despite ugly walk to beach through another property, beach is only about a 3-4 min walk. Was easy to socialize with other guests due to cozy pool arrangment. Pool is literally 4 feet outside your patio door, which the kids loved. pros- staff was very, very kind, friendly, and accomodating. ![]() Also, check out time is a very early 10am (no exceptions! in a prominent sign in room) which is inconvenient. A new sink had just been installed, which was nice, but there were mis-matched towel rod holders and inroom fridge and stove that was probably from the 70's. Cracked tile in bathroom, peeling wall paper, overwashed, tired sheets and bedding. ![]() Really, you have to walk through this other resort to get to the beach. I was not beach front, and the "beach path" is a very poorly maintained, flooded mud path that goes by a large resort's elevated parking lot. Usually I never go wrong with picking trip advisor "top rated" hotels, but I was disappointed here, more because I was expecting more. ![]()
